Artist

I like to observe nature. My quilts are based on patterns, colours and shapes I observe and photograph for my personal image bank. Events and feelings also are a source of inspiration. I work very intuitively with the fabrics on the design wall, most of the time without a sketch.

While I work in my studio, I listen to jazz or music from around the world. This musical background and my photo collection provide inspiration under the guise of rhythm and images. I use hand-dyed and painted fabrics, as well as the images I print on fabric from my photographs.

A messy workspace is a good sign

On the technical side, I studied fashion design and pattern drafting in Montreal a long time ago. More recently, I expanded my textile techniques by studying with various teachers and mentors, notably composition and design with John Willard, Lorraine Torrence, Nancy Crow and Michael James, surface design and textile painting with Ann Johnston and Elizabeth Busch; free-motion machine embroidery with Ken Smith, Kristen Dibbs and Libby Lehman; and collage techniques with David Walker and Jane Sassaman.
