Arbutus Fruit
Photo: Artist
Last October, my husband and I visited the Gulf Islands of British-Columbia
and fell in love with the beautiful landscape, the ocean, the wildlife,
the rocks. You name it, it was beautiful. The arbutus tree - which is
called madrone in California - grows in dry and sunny spots on the islands,
the northernmost area of its range. It has one of the most interesting
barks, orange, peeling and also very sleek, fascinating. And the bonus:
lovely fruit. I hear the fruit is edible but not very tasty...
