"The food we contemplate..." a
bit of lyric from a Paul Simon song got me thinking about the food
we eat, the meals we prepare for our families... and the ingredients
we use. In North America, food is plentiful, but what is it made of?
Is it really natural or mostly genetically-modified? I expressed those
feelings in a wild mix of colours and with "foliage" that
is decidedly bizarre on the right side, to hint at my worries. The
piece has a great deal of surface stitching and embroidery: cells,
a DNA chain and "hairy fruit"...
In 1999, this quilt was
juried into “Keeping the World Sewing”, an international
exhibition sponsored by Husqvarna Viking. The exhibition opened at
Quilt Expo VII, in Strasbourg, France, and toured in Europe, the USA
and Australia.
