Based on photos of Australian trees and foliage, this quilt is a commission for a Toronto client. The colours remind me of the soil and of dried leaves, and allude to bush fires and heat. In Australia, “mallee” refers to eucalyptus trees. Larry is the owner of a mallee farm I visited on Kangaroo Island, South Australia.
